On October 12, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m, Retired minister Rev. Ron Miyamura will be discussing an important concept in Shin Buddhism “sono mama” which means come as you are. After all, can you be anything other than what you are? Explore this more at the seminar. The suggested donation is $25.About Rev. Miyamura:  Rev. Miyamura was born and raised in Northern California, in the very small town on Penryn, the site of the Placer Buddhist Church. Rev. Miyamura graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1969 while attending the pre-ministerial candidate version of the Institute of Buddhist Studies, and then went to Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan and received a Master’s Degree in Shin Buddhist Studies in 1974. He received is ministerial ordination in 1971 and was certified as a Kaikyoshi in 1973. From 1973 to 1975, Rev. Miyamura was the Associate Minister with the late Rev. Gyodo Kono at the Midwest Buddhist Temple. After Rev. Kono’s sudden passing, Rev. Miyamura was the Resident Minister from 1976 to 1981. In 1981, Rev. Miyamura resigned from the active ministry. Rev. Miyamura continued being the minister to the Twin Cities Sangha, and continued to assist the Midwest Buddhist Temple ministers during his official absence from the active ministry. In 2011, Rev. Miyamura returned as a Kaikyoshi to be the Resident Minister of the Midwest Buddhist. He retired in 2023. Rev. Miyamura and his wife, Elaine, live on the north side of Chicago.
